We have been enjoying a beautiful fall weekend with weather in the 70s! Kerry and I took advantage of the nice weather yesterday and ventured to Fort Washington. We saw it from the river this summer when we had taken a boat cruise from Mount Vernon but neither one of us had ever been to the fort. The place is huge! And, there was no one there.

There was a great view of DC and Alexandria.

After walking around and exploring the f0rt- we were in the mood for some yummy pizza. Instead of going to are usual favorite place, we decided to try out Comet Ping Pong and it was great. Highly recommend the pizza and it was definitely kid friendly in the afternoon.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

We started off the day with a trip to the flu clinic to get Hadley’s second part of the seasonal flu shot. Luckily, they had enough for Kerry to get one too. Be sure to ask him why he did not get his shot when we brought Hadley to the pediatrician last month and the doctor offered to vaccinate all three of us but only Hadley and I walked out with the shot.
After the no tears visit to the doctor, we made a stop by Target so Hadley could spend her Halloween money from Mom. I guess since she cannot have the edible treats yet, Grandmom decided cash would be a nice Halloween surprise
She got a cool stacking toy that does lots of fun things. Of course to Hadley, the most fun is banging two plastic things together and see how loud a noise she can make. Hours of entertainment was had today with this treat!

As mentioned several times before, Hadley is in constant motion. Kerry figured out a way to contain her yesterday. Literally.

And, please notice the wreck that is our living room in this picture. Hadley loves to dump toys all over the floor and spread things around while she attempts to crawl around our living room floor. If we try to clean them up, her lower lip starts to quiver and a slight panic starts. I guess to her there is some order to the chaos. So, the tornado of toys gets put away once she is put to bed and then it starts all over the next morning.
Hope everyone had a nice Halloween!

I spent the beginning of the week in San Antonio for work- nice city but no direct flight from Washington, DC- so I spent part of Monday getting there and most of Wednesday getting home. The trip down was extended by an hour due to bad storms and most of the trip was really, really bouncy. The trip home was a lot less eventful and it was nice to be back home. Business travel really does not allow for sightseeing (you know- that work thing gets in the way every time) but since the Alamo was a two block walk from the hotel- I did squeeze in a short visit after a long work day. I obviously did no research before my trip because I did not know the Alamo was right in downtown San Antonio. I guess I pictured it being a little bit removed from the city but it is literally surrounded by restaurants, shops, hotels and offices. It was free to visit and I got a small history tour. Definitely worth visiting if you are in San Antonio!

Otherwise, the trip was all work but we did get to enjoy two dinners on the Riverwalk.
Kerry did an excellent job of taking care of Hadley while I was gone but I did get greeted last night with a runny nose, a slight cough and some stomach issues. No fever equals no flu but she definitely has a serious case of the icks. Her ickiness has not impacted her movement and we both have a feeling that we will be showing you crawling video very soon. She now gets her legs in the right position and does this lunging movement forward. She is so close! While I was gone- she mastered sitting and her new favorite thing is to dump all the toys out around her.

Or to get under anything that seems interesting.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

We are lucky to have beautiful weather right now! Kerry thinks it is too warm for official ‘Fall weather’ but I am happy with the 50 degree mornings and the 75 degree afternoons. We took advantage of the clear blue sky this morning and ventured to Great Falls National Park. We both commented that it is hard to believe we were only 15 miles from our house and downtown DC.

The trails around the falls were mostly stroller accessible (having the three wheels helps) and Hadley enjoyed the fresh air. She even managed to fall asleep as we walked along the river.

If you look really, really closely you might be able to find the kayaker we saw come down the falls. We watched him as he came down the upper part and lower rapids. Several times he attempted to get back up the lower rapids.

As we were leaving we counted over 65 cars waiting to get into the park. Driving home, we saw the finish line for the Marine Corp Marathon and Kerry commented that he might have to register for next year. Let the marathon training begin! Hadley and I will gladly be spectators.

Sorry for the lack of posting- I had some sort of mysterious illness on Tuesday and Wednesday (no fever so we are hoping it was not H1N1) but Leigh does have the flu and we hope she feels better soon. We are taking our vitamins, obsessively washing hands and checking Hadley’s temperature regularly. Flu paranoia has set in.
Hadley turned 7 months yesterday and she managed to close her fingers in the door while she was rolling around on the floor. I was only 18 inches away from her but somehow she got her fingers in the perfect position and they got closed on the hinge side of the door. The screaming that ensued next was heartbreaking but after I distracted her with the frog shaped ice pack all was well. I am not entirely sure if it was one finger, all her fingers or what exactly happened but it was a heart racing way to start the morning for both of us. Obviously, no memory of it for Hadley though because this morning she tried to go straight for the door.
Her very favorite place to roll to these days is seen above. She can pull the books off the shelf, grab a diaper to chew on (yum) and try to pull leaves off the plant all at the same time. If she gets moved- she promptly tries to go right back and gets upset if something (aka- the bumbo, a pillow or anything we can use to stop access)is blocking her way. After a ‘battle’ of wills this morning- Kerry and I will win by doing some rearranging this weekend.
We can’t believe how fast time has gone by! Seven whole months and she gets to be more fun everyday.

After a miserable, rainy and chilly weekend- we started off this week with cold weather. I discovered on Monday morning that Hadley is not a big fan of the temperature change. We walked out the door into the chilly and windy air and she promptly started her panicky scream. Once she was in the car all was well. I told her I felt the same way about the drastic weather change.
It is getting harder to take her picture these days because she is in constant motion. However, I did get one of her wearing her bones onesie from Leigh. This cool onesie even glows in the dark. She got multiple compliments on it while we were out on Sunday.
And, speaking of Sunday- I tried to convince her that she should take an afternoon nap by putting her down in her crib. Last week, we discovered her arms stuck through the front side rails of her crib and her legs stuck through the back side rails of her crib so we have put the bumpers back up. So, since she can’t see me anymore because of the bumpers, I decided to sit in the recliner and wait to see if she fell asleep. All was quiet for a few minutes but out of the corner of my eye- I see her head rising above the bumpers and the crib rail. Hadley figured out how to pull herself up so Kerry figured out how to lower the crib so that does not happen again. No nap was had but luckily no tumbles out of the crib happened either.
She is trying so hard to crawl- she can get her legs under her and her arms in the right position but has not quite figured out how to do them together. However, getting where she wants to go is no problem because she is an excellent roller in both directions and has even mastered spinning herself around to get a better angle (or better grab on the computer cord, the wipe container, the leaf of a plant, the remote control, the leg of the chair, a cell phone, a towel, a diaper off the shelf, a picture frame, a book or really anything that is remotely interesting). I think we might be doing some furniture re-arranging this weekend!

I love to cook and knew that making baby food would just be part of my weekly routine. Not sure if I made a mistake by offering Hadley the organic jarred version first but my logic was to see what she liked, and then make her favorite foods from scratch. I think this plan has backfired. Last week I made her acorn squash and she was not so keen on it but I chalked it up to her never having had it and maybe the texture was a little strange. This week I steamed fresh organic carrots and pureed them to the same consistency of the Gerber version and she nicely spit them into the sleeve of her onesie. I tried several bites and each time she would lean over and let them fall onto her sleeve. After half the serving of carrots was all over her- I switched to the Gerber version and she ate every last bite. Now, I have 12 servings of carrots that I guess I will keep in the freezer for a few weeks and see if she changes her mind about homemade baby food.
