I love to cook and knew that making baby food would just be part of my weekly routine. Not sure if I made a mistake by offering Hadley the organic jarred version first but my logic was to see what she liked, and then make her favorite foods from scratch. I think this plan has backfired. Last week I made her acorn squash and she was not so keen on it but I chalked it up to her never having had it and maybe the texture was a little strange. This week I steamed fresh organic carrots and pureed them to the same consistency of the Gerber version and she nicely spit them into the sleeve of her onesie. I tried several bites and each time she would lean over and let them fall onto her sleeve. After half the serving of carrots was all over her- I switched to the Gerber version and she ate every last bite. Now, I have 12 servings of carrots that I guess I will keep in the freezer for a few weeks and see if she changes her mind about homemade baby food.

Various people who have way more experience with kids (i.e., the pediatrician, Hadley’s daycare provider, other moms) have told us that Hadley would probably not like green beans. Howewver, they told us that she would love pears and apples and she just barely tolerates them. Before buying lots of green beans to make her food, I grabbed a small packet and she loves them. She screamed for more after she had eaten one portion size.

They were so good- Hadley even tried to eat them off her bib.

She might not like them next month but they are certainly her favorite right now.

It is October so we figure Hadley can sport her Halloween gear. in tribute to Kerry’s love of ketchup- Leigh sent me a link to a trick or treat bag that looked like a ketchup packet a few weeks ago but over the weekend Mom found it at the store. Now, Hadley has her first trick or treat bag and she loves it. I guess girls love of bags starts early!
Yum, felt tastes so good.
This morning she got to wear her Halloween onesie and new socks (that could also match her Tennessee onesies). This was the only picture because she was trying to eat the house plant (and it is now at my office because it can be dangerous to small children).

In other orange news, I am making acorn squash tonight for Hadley (and a little for me) and I am hoping she likes it because there will be many one ounce servings in the freezer.
