The beginning of home rest

I think this home rest/modified bed rest thing should otherwise be known as house arrest. Today was not so bad- it is beautiful outside so I opened up all the windows, worked from home and visited the doctor. The doctor thinks Baby V has decided to stay put for a few more days so he was happy about that.

Yesterday, Kerry and I almost finished the nursery. We are just missing a mirror above the white cabinet, Mom’s painting for above the dresser and a few other decorations. I guess after our weekend experience it was pretty official that we will be bringing a baby home very soon :-)

The bookshelf was the perfect place to hang the spy camera.

room1Also, on the agenda this week is to get the carseat installed in the car.

Thanks to everyone who has offered to entertain me, feed me, bring me coloring books and all the nice phone calls! We will keep you posted!

Winter Storm Warning and other weekend happenings

DC and the metro area are under a winter storm warning until 2pm tomorrow. We are supposed to get 5-9 inches of snow but so far no flakes, just gray outside. Supposedly we will have 3 inches prior to 8pm tonight. We are waiting.

canphotoKerry thought this was hysterical as we were waiting to start our hospital tour at Sibley. I promised I would post it. (Officially 35 weeks 3 days pregnant today). The hospital tour was very useful and the tour guide gave us some great information BUT there was a couple in our group who could not follow directions. On the hospital website and when I called to book the tour, it was clearly state- ‘this is an adult only tour. We have a siblings tour for couple’s who already have children. This tour is intended for parents to be only.’ The aforementioned couple showed up with their SCREAMING, out of control three year old and thought we would all appreciate ‘seeing what we had in store.’ The mom really said that. Are you kidding me? The tour guide was annoyed, the other people were annoyed, the nurses on the floors we visited were annoyed and this couple was completely oblivious to everyone else. I am positive they did not hear anything the tour guide said because they were having to stop her from running down the labor and delivery floor, find the pear she threw, answer her questions, stop her from going into a patients’ room, find her book and muffle her screams. If I had been the tour guide I would have kicked them out. Otherwise, it was a nice tour.

Minor home projects today too. Kerry replaced the awful light bar in the guest bathroom with something much more appealing.

bathlightNow, we just need to replace the vanity and the flooring. More to come on that project soon.

In February, my mom’s co-workers threw her a ‘Grandmother Shower,’ and she got some nice books, toys, towels and baby things for her house. And, she got a boat load of clothing for Baby V! Elementary school teachers know how to pick out clothing and our clothing collection has now tripled. Baby V got dresses, onesies, sleepers, pants, socks, the cutest jeans and t-shirts (plus bibs and burp cloths that coordinate). She is going to be well-dressed in the coming months.

I finally finished sewing the curtains I started last week and made another pillow. I need to find some hardware to hold back the curtain tie but almost done.

pillows2Chip’s mom made us the baby blanket on the back of the chair. It is so soft and so pretty!

And, I met up with my mom’s group this weekend and we had a ‘diaper exchange.’ Basically everyone bought a different brand of diapers and we mixed them up so everyone left with all the different brands and now we can see what will work best for us. We have over a 100 diapers now and hopefully one will be our favorite. Scary to think that 100+ diapers will probably only last us a week.

diapersHope everyone had a nice weekend and if it does snow we will post the pictures!

Sewing Project

I have been searching for curtains and some pillows for the nursery and have not found anything I liked so I decided to sew them myself. (I guess those fibers classes I had to take when I was getting my Art degree do come in handy). The nursery seems to be almost all pink, chocolate and white and I found some great fabric yesterday to coordinate:

fabricI finished one pillow and started on the curtains before having to get ready for Leigh’s birthday lunch!

curtainsThe curtains are WAY too long so I will be finishing up the one side, hemming and adding some finishing details later today.

Here is the pillow:

Sneaking in the recliner

kerry09

Kerry has been wanting a recliner for months and after a suggestion from his physical therapist, he decided that the nursery would be a perfect spot for one. The logic was that if Baby V was having a bad night, ‘we’ could rock her in the recliner and also comfortably fall asleep in the chair if needed. After looking at gliders and rocking chairs for a nursery, I agreed to the recliner plan as long as the recliner did not look like a ‘typical’ recliner. No ugly tweedy fabric or strangely puffed up back allowed. Kerry was on a mission and when we joined Jorge and Gina furniture shopping today, he found the recliner. (This was the only link I could find to the recliner- we purchased at Belfort Furniture). We bought one and Jorge and Gina purchased two. It rocks, reclines, looks really nice and will be arriving at the beginning of February. And, now that the recliner has been strategically snuck into the house- I am assuming Kerry is volunteering for the middle of the night ‘comforting’ sessions with Baby V. Here is a preview:

We had fun furniture shopping today and Gina and I quickly noticed a trend with Jorge and Kerry since they went to every reclining piece of furniture in all the stores.

Kerry found the over-sized dining room chair for all of us to model in:

tandk09I guess the above qualifies as our 28 week picture (28 weeks and 2 days to be exact). Now, we are back at home with a nice fire and watching the football playoffs.

More baby stuff

We got our crib delivered from Land of Nod today. I saw the huge Crate and Barrel truck coming up the hill right at our delivery time. In less than an hour, Kerry had assembled it and it looks great. Now, we have all the nursery furniture complete.

babyroom1Thanks Mom! We really like the crib and it is a great addition to the nursery.

In other baby related news this week, Baby V has her first designer duds. Emily and Anna gave us a very cute Juicy Couture Baby onesie.

On Monday, we will have a new nephew! Erin and Cory check into the hospital Monday morning for the delivery. We are excited to see pictures and think it will be fun to have a Christmas kid in the family.

Kerry has been busy!

Kerry has been working very hard (and it is much appreciated) on the nursery furniture and room. He has painted the dresser, bookshelf and cabinet and replaced all the knobs, cleaned out the closet, fixed the curtain rod, patched the wall, fixed the rocking chair and moved all the other furniture out. Yesterday he had the day off and when I got home, everything was complete! It looks so great and when our crib arrives next week we will be almost done. Thanks Kerry!
