A very touching gift

We came home to a package on our door step today and were completely touched by the present inside. Kerry’s step-mom lost her battle with cancer in December 2006 and today Baby V received a gift from her. Erin, Kerry’s sister, sent us the nice package and the card let us know that Terri had worked on this as a surprise for Kerry and his future child. Somehow she knew! We both could not believe that she had done this (Kerry still has the blanket she made him many years ago). We decided it would look great hanging in the nursery:

I remember when I first met Terri that we got a good laugh about the similar names (Terri, Kerry, Cory and Torey) and anytime someone mistakenly calls me or Kerry ‘Terry’ I think of her.

Also, in the package was some very cute clothes from Aunt Erin and Uncle Cory and a whole set of shoes. Baby V has tennis shoes, pink shoes, mary janes and the cutest pair of sparkly baby converse.

The beginning of home rest

I think this home rest/modified bed rest thing should otherwise be known as house arrest. Today was not so bad- it is beautiful outside so I opened up all the windows, worked from home and visited the doctor. The doctor thinks Baby V has decided to stay put for a few more days so he was happy about that.

Yesterday, Kerry and I almost finished the nursery. We are just missing a mirror above the white cabinet, Mom’s painting for above the dresser and a few other decorations. I guess after our weekend experience it was pretty official that we will be bringing a baby home very soon :-)

The bookshelf was the perfect place to hang the spy camera.

room1Also, on the agenda this week is to get the carseat installed in the car.

Thanks to everyone who has offered to entertain me, feed me, bring me coloring books and all the nice phone calls! We will keep you posted!

Sewing Project

I have been searching for curtains and some pillows for the nursery and have not found anything I liked so I decided to sew them myself. (I guess those fibers classes I had to take when I was getting my Art degree do come in handy). The nursery seems to be almost all pink, chocolate and white and I found some great fabric yesterday to coordinate:

fabricI finished one pillow and started on the curtains before having to get ready for Leigh’s birthday lunch!

curtainsThe curtains are WAY too long so I will be finishing up the one side, hemming and adding some finishing details later today.

Here is the pillow:

Beautiful weather in DC!

We have had wonderful weather this weekend! Bright, sunny and in the 60s- perfect weather for Kerry to wear shorts. We went to Annapolis today to celebrate mom’s birthday (her birthday is tomorrow) and had a great lunch at the new Austin Grill.  And, we even got a picture!

meandmom209I am officially at 32 weeks and 3 days (only 53 days to go) and she has definitely dropped some. It must have happened over the weekend because my clothes are fitting a little different than they did on Friday and my heartburn is not as bad.

Mom has been working on a watercolor for the nursery and we got a sneak peak today. It is really great and it is a little hard to tell in the picture below but there will be a giraffe, monkey and toucan when it is all complete. We think it will look great in our nursery.

watercolor1We are excited to see the finished product and to hang it up in the nursery! Thanks Mom!

The Recliner

The new recliner/glider/rocker is now in the house. It was convenient that it arrived right before the two football games today- Kerry decided to keep it in the living room for a few hours to ‘break it in’ and ‘make sure it was comfortable.’ It was football, chili, a fire in the fireplace and a recliner and he was completely happy.

kerryrecliner2The chair did get moved back to the nursery but Kerry had to make sure it was still comfortable.

kerryreclinerAnd, I promised several people I would post a profile picture of my expanding middle. No laughing allowed. I have 10 1/2 weeks left!

bellyIt has been a pretty quiet weekend at the house due to the Inauguration and not being able to easily get around town so we do not have a whole lot to update. In a few weeks we head to Charleston and so far we have plans for a ghost tour, a tour of the Hunley submarine and a trip to Fort Sumter. Let us know if you have any other suggestions!

Christmas decorations, pregnancy update, shopping and a shower

Kerry and I put up the tree this weekend (well, Kerry assembled the tree and I put up all the ornaments and lights) since Leigh and I are having our cookie party next Sunday. We have some lights to hang on the balcony but that is going to have to happen after this rain stops. Otherwise, it is starting to look a lot like Christmas around here.

xmastree1Also, in news about us- I started to look pregnant this week. My friends had told me that I would just wake up one day and not fit into my clothes. Well, I can still wear some of my non-maternity clothes but most have been packed away or loaned to Leigh. And, Leigh was nice enough to bring a few coats that she can no longer wear that will get me through the winter. And for everyone who keeps asking, I have gained 6 pounds.

Mom and I did venture to the mall for Black Friday and we found some fun nursery items at Pottery Barn Kids. Mom discovered the bedskirt on the wrong shelf so we were able to get the bumper, sheets and bedskirt. Unfortunately, I can’t find the pattern online and forgot to take a picture when I was in Annapolis but it is a really pretty quilt pattern. It is a Christmas present so we will have updates on Christmas Day!

Finally, to end very busy weekend, I went with Jessica to get my registry started (and used my new, official last name for the first time) at Babies R Us. My sister and nice friends are planning a January shower so Jessica offered to give her expert advice on what we actually need and will use. It was nice to have her help and her advice on all the stuff because it is a tad overwhelming. While I was out ‘shopping,’ Kerry finished painting two of the three pieces of furniture we are going to keep in the nursery. They are now a nice chocolate brown and should have new handles, knobs and hardware by next weekend. Kerry is really making the room look great!

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
